Managing Director, Chief Design Engineer

Austin is the founder, managing director and chief design engineer at Grove Design. Austin worked in industry but always knew that he would apply his design skills from within his own company and started the business from rural Herefordshire in 1990. It was always his goal to establish a successful Industrial Design Company, utilising his experience in mechanical engineering and product design. Over 30 years later, Austin’s passion for design spans a diverse variety of projects, overseeing a talented team, with skills and experience in a range of areas. Austin’s experience prior to Grove Design - and working freelance in the early days - contributed to a broad portfolio, including waste recycling plant, automotive design, production equipment, and much more. He believes in Grove Design’s capability to ‘engineer things to work, and look good too’, managing the design journey all the way from conception to production.

As Grove Design has evolved, technology has also advanced, and Austin has always been keen to introduce new innovative methods of designing and prototyping. Digital processes are largely at the core of Grove Design’s practices, and Austin is always interested in streamlining the company’s process, and providing the most efficient, high quality service for Grove’s clients.

Despite many years of leading Grove Design’s projects, Austin still manages to utilise his creative talents where possible. Outside of work he combines art and engineering in sculptural pieces. This eye for aesthetics contributes to a rich design process at Grove Design, maintaining style, while also creating practical, high quality solutions.
