Will Helme
Design Engineer
Will Helme is a Design Engineer at Grove Design. From a young age, he has been drawn to activities that encourage artistic flair and problem solving. What began with building lego models and dens in the woods soon progressed to fabricating sculptures and go-karts in the workshop on his family farm. One of the things Will discovered during his Engineering Design Masters at Bristol University, was his passion for solving problems using data driven analytics. From tackling an optimization problem in excel, analysing audio samples in matlab or collating real world data and applying mathematical concepts, he finds it all fascinating.
As a keen rugby player, Will finds himself continuously practicing the sport’s core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship. These values resonate strongly with him, and he believes that they can be applied to many walks of life, especially in a professional work environment.
Will also uses his own 3D printer to bring ideas to life, creating functional parts for various projects and miniature agricultural models. He finds that forming a 3D object from a 2D sketch in a matter of hours is a magical thing to behold.
Will still makes use of his farm workshop and facilities, recent projects include a 40ft Shipping Container Swimming Pool and a 3m concrete countertop for a friend’s restaurant. Being able to celebrate these creations with friends and family has been a real pleasure for him, and inspires him to continue learning and developing as a Design Engineer.
