Independent Living
Grove Design has been responsible for taking concepts through to production for several products that support people who want to continue living at home with dignity.
Client
arthr is powered by the charity Versus Arthritis. Their mission is to improve everyday living for people with arthritis by designing, developing and championing innovative, high-quality and ergonomic products. arthr describes their business as a ‘social venture’ bringing together contributors from a range of communities, including arthritis sufferers, healthcare professionals and product designers.
Through iterative design, prototyping and testing, Grove Design worked closely with arthr to create the Toilet Assist and Bath Step, both of which provide a discreet and minimal solution to support the user’s mobility. The sleek aesthetic comfortably blends within the average bathroom, and provides needed support when navigating around the bathroom.
Product
Toilet assist - The brief here included the need for the device to present a clean and attractive look that blends into the user’s home environment. It should not be clinical or intimidating but rather be an aide that blends into the home but doesn’t look out of place when the space is shared with others.
Bath step - The client had looked at existing products but found them to be clinical in appearance and invasive in the way they were fitted. There was a need for a device that complemented the decor of a modern bathroom whilst providing reassuring assistance when entering and leaving the bath.
Grove Design worked closely with the client to develop and assess prototypes that potential users found helpful and could be excited about the prospect of owning.
